Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs... since the payment is pure love.
— MILDRED VERMONT

We would like to wish all the miracle workers a happy Mother’s day and we hope that it will be a day filled with treats, hugs, family and love. Be on the lookout for our preschoolers’ Mother’s day cards that were made with love.

I rule

We are busy finishing up our grade 6 and 7 projects and we couldn’t be more proud of what they accomplished this term. For their project they created their own country. We were assessing their research skills, critical thinking and problem solving, and we gave them an opportunity to do what we all would like to do: RULE THEIR OWN COUNTRY!  We were thrilled with the countries they came up with. They designed beautiful flags, thought of clever laws and managed a presidential campaign where they ran for president of their new country. We are just hoping that all of this power hasn’t gone to their heads…

Tizzy's Busy Week

...and a busy week it has been for all of our preschool learners! They have been working in a flash based program called Tizzy’s Busy Week and helping her do her chores around her new house. Not only are our pupils learning about household chores but they are also developing their mouse control and program navigation skills. From moving the mouse in order to clean a dirty window to clicking and dragging in order to help Tizzy clean up the garden, our preschool learners can do it all, and the best part is that they are having fun too!

It's Christmas time!

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year when we celebrate faith, family, and the tradition of giving gifts and sending greeting cards. Sending out Christmas greetings is an easy way to reach friends and family with the warmth and love of Christmas spirit.
We gave our pre-schoolers an opportunity to create beautiful Christmas cards that they can give to their loved ones. They also had a chance to create stunning packaging for their farewell gifts. We have been handing out the Christmas cards and gifts over the past two weeks and we can see how proud they are of their designs.
To all the families we would like to wish you peace, joy, and all the best this wonderful holiday has to offer. May this incredible time of giving and spending time with family bring you joy that lasts throughout the year.

Programming is a basic literacy in the digital age.

Our coding term at our primary schools has been going on without a hitch. We have a bunch of fun- filled lessons lined up, that will help them all become coding masters in
no time.
Why do we think that it is so important to start teaching coding at such a young age?
First of all we know that all primary school learners are already clever enough to master these new skills. It is also a fun and different way to apply problem-solving skills, pattern recognition and analytical skills. And lastly, we need to teach them basic coding skills because we are, in fact preparing this e-generation for jobs that don’t even exist as yet.
So we love going on this coding quest with our primary schools and we can’t wait to see how they will impress us next.

Recycle Rush!

Our grade one’s and grade two’s are creating a cool recycling activity using 2 Simple DIY software.
We are testing their knowledge while at the same time creating an awareness of those materials that can be recycled by showing them how to design four categories: glass, paper, metal and finally one for plastic. They then import clipart items that are made of any of these materials and have to place them in the correct “recycling bins”. The programme then scrambles the pictures. They have a great time sorting and placing the clipart items back into the correct recycling bins.
We know that the future of this planet is in the good hands of our grade one’s and grade two’s who have met the demands of first setting up and then playing the recycling game.

Coding!

Coding, coding, coding! This term is all about coding and our Grade 1 learners have been having fun learning how to create their own programs as well as working through exciting coding activities that involve making bubbles pop, fish move, and aeroplanes take off in different directions. Because technology is playing a huge part in education these days, children no longer just need to be able to use it but also how to manipulate it and create with it and that is what we at Little Brains try to teach through coding. It is all about developing learners’ logical reasoning and problem solving skills in a creative and interactive way.

Flowers are blooming everywhere!

Flowers are blooming everywhere, including on our computer screens! Our pre-school children and Grade R’s are back at school and planting away! In their first lesson of computers for term 3 they had to create a garden scene and learn how to plant, water and then watch all sorts of flowers, vegetables and herbs grow. In addition to planting different kinds of vegetables, learners had to identify and label these correctly by putting sign posts up next to the correct plant. Each and every one of our learners thoroughly enjoyed this lesson which happened just in time for them to see their gardens come to life at home.
