Our Grade 3 to 5’s has worked through various activities to make their own restaurants, from creating a name, slogan, décor as well as a menu! It was finally time to put all their great ideas into a Microsoft Office PowerPoint presentation. The children learnt about the different designs and slideshow animates. We also revised over how to change the font style, colour and size. Next week is the week for them to present their restaurants and we cannot wait to see what they have in store for us!!
This week with our Grade 6 and 7’s we explained to them the concept of debating. We split them into teams and were asked research a specific topic about cyber bullying. They used the internet to gather information thereafter they had to use Microsoft Word and put their information into a table form. Next week we are going to use our information to debate the topics that were assigned to them. We are so excited to see the children debate!!
With our Grade 6 and 7’s we touched on a very important issue: cyber bullying. We spoke a little about it when we discussed e-safety but now we went more into detail by asking the children to research it. We asked the children to find out what cyberbullying is, how we can prevent it, signs/effects of cyberbullying and facts about cyberbullying. We then asked them to put the information they gathered into a poster using Microsoft Office Publisher. The children also had to find images that were informative and captivating to a bystander. We were impressed on how seriously the children took the project. Here is one of our favourite poster:
We introduced a new program with the pre-school learners and Grade R’s where it helped them with letter and keyboard recognition. They first started off a keyboard on their screen with parts missing; the children had to look at the keyboard to find out what was missing on their screen. Thereafter we played some mini games which included a letter being shown their screen and they had to find it on their keyboard, if they got it wrong, Tizzy the Clown would score a goal on the soccer field and another was Tizzy messed chocolate all over her keyboard which covered up some keys and the children ad to find out which keys were covered in chocolate. We all loved this program and cannot wait to use it again!
As we know the 21st June is Father’s Day and we all think the amazing fathers out there need to be reminded that even though mothers steal the spotlight, fathers are still pretty fantastic! We made father’s day cards on 2Publisher +, the children did really well manipulating the tools as they remembered doing their mother’s day card on this programme. We asked them why their father’s were special to them and some answers were: he plays playstation with me, he never asks me to clean my room and our favourite answer was because he says I’m his favourite. To all the wonderful father’s out there… Happy Father’s Day!
This week with our Pre-school and Grade R learners we did a fantastic story called “A Trip to the Market.” They were able to listen and interact with the story at their own pace. This facilitated them with hand-eye co-ordination and auditory skills. It was Anna’s Granma’s birthday so Anna had to get a gift from the market. We taught them what the difference between a market and supermarket was. We explored the market and had fun shopping for Granma’s birthday as there were so many amazing gifts to choose from! In the end we saw that the children really enjoyed story time and we did too!
We got very creative this week with our Grade 1’s and 2’s. We started off by asking them their favourite food and restaurants. Spur and McDonalds was the top two preferred choices which didn’t surprise us! We then opened 2Publish+ and went to Menu Card where we asked them to create a menu for their restaurant with three food items and create a unique name for their restaurant. One of the names that stood out to us was “Arrr you hungry?” which was a pirate themed restaurant. We also saw some very expensive food which cost a million rand!! In the end the children made amazing menu cards which we think is fit enough to be used in a restaurant!
This week we started our term project with our Grade 6 to 7’s. We had a group discussion on what e-safety is and how to be safe online. We then opened 2Connect and made a mind map on how to be safe online and why we use the internet. It was shocking as the list of why we use the internet was endless! We are super excited to see how this term’s project goes and to see what their presentations will look like. We chose this topic as we believe it is such an important issue that we would like to educate our children on.
We wanted all Mothers to feel special on this day so we decided to what other way than to make a card? On 2Publish Plus, we have used the card tool to help the children create their own cards. They were able to create their own borders, draw pictures and write a special message to their mom’s. We asked each child why they cherished their mom and we loved their answers. Some of them were because she’s beautiful, she sleeps next to me, or just because she loves me too. To all the beautiful mothers out there... Happy Mothers Day!
