Curriculum Information


Pre-Primary 

Our pre-primary curriculum is wholly age appropriate. The programs offer fun and interesting ways to become oriented with the mouse and keyboard, as well as teaching navigation. As the students progress into Grade R, we introduce them to basic numeracy and literacy, in line with what they are doing in class. Key skills which are developed during this age group are: 

  • Fine motor skills, which are developed through mouse and keyboard use 
  • Correct posture for computer use 
  • Logical reasoning and problem solving 
  • Maths concepts such as size, shape, colour and counting 
  • Basic keyboard orientation and letter recognition 
  • Observational skills such as sorting and matching, comparisons, and recognising and copying patterns 
  • Spatial concepts through exploratory programs 
  • Listening skills, through the use of instruction based programs 
  • Social skills are developed through group activities 
  • Literacy skills, through listening to stories and participating in related activities 
  • Basic computer knowledge, such as opening and closing programs, turning on and shutting down the computer or iPad

Foundation Phase

We expose our foundation phase learners to a large range of programs, which enable them to use technology effectively in their learning process. The lessons include: 

  • Creating our own games and resources which enforce class based learning as well as IT skills 
  • Weekly typing practice which teaches students the correct finger placement and the ability to touch type 
  • Literacy based activities which assess comprehension skills 
  • Fun maths based activities which align with the work that the students are doing in class 
  • Introduction to Microsoft Office, especially concentrating on formatting skills 
  • Creative activities which include drawing and taking pictures 
  • Creating computer programs using 2Code, and learning the associated vocabulary and concepts 
  • Publishing activities, such as creating cards, posters and post cards

Intermediate Phase

The intermediate phase sees a move towards more formal learning of the Microsoft Suite, but with a healthy dose of creativity and fun. Our lessons include the following: 

  • Creative writing activities, such as stories, poems, and information texts 
  • Mind mapping around specific topics 
  • Stop-motion animation 
  • Using spreadsheets in creative ways, whilst learning key formulas needed to manipulate data 
  • The students prepare and present projects to the class, enabling them to improve public speaking skills as well as knowledge of Powerpoint 
  • Publishing activities, including making cards and posters 
  • E-safety lessons, to enable the students to use technology in a safe way and understand the dangers of using the internet
